Looking to create a more rustic look to your twin son’s bedroom then why not invest in some log bunk beds. As well as looking very rugged they are extremely durable. Plus your boy’s will find that they enjoy using them to create a den.
When it comes to the purchasing of these kinds of bunk beds for your home there are a number of different types to select from. A quick search online and you will be astounded that you don’t have to limit yourself to the conventional style. You have the choice of loft types or twin over twin providing your kids with more room to play or to sleep at night.
However, when it comes to the purchase of these types of bunk beds there are certain standards that they should meet. Failure to purchase those that meet these standards could actually result in them being unsafe for your child to use.
So what things should you be looking at closely when it comes to investing money in these kinds of beds for your children? By inspecting the features we list below carefully you will be helping to ensure that your children remain save at night when sleeping.
Feature 1 – Guardrails
It is a much better option that the bunk beds you opt for have guardrails on all four sides rather than three. Plus make sure that they are firmly attached to the structure of the bed by the use of bolts or screws. If the beds are not firmly secured to the bed then there is the chance as your child moves around they can become dislodged and so your child may become trapped between them.
It is also important that these rails extend at least 5 inches above the top of the mattress. This will help to ensure that your child is unlikely to roll off the bed as they sleep.
Feature 2 – Ladders
There is a great risk of a child causing themselves an injury when attempting to get in and out of the top bunk. It is important that like the guardrails this feature is attached firmly to the main structure by the use of bolts. Also look for the types of ladders where the rungs come with some form of grip on them that will help to prevent the child from slipping as they climb up it. Remember in many cases as child climbs onto this feature their feet will be bare or they will be wearing socks. Also to help them see the ladder clearly at night fit some sort of night light close by.
Feature 3 – Mattresses
When it comes to the mattresses for log bunk beds you must make sure that they fit exactly inside the bed. Most tend to come with mattresses already and these are made to match the bed size perfectly. These ensure that no gaps occur between the guardrails and the mattresses which could provide space for arms, hands, feet or legs to become trapped.
